Q&A: How many years of bad luck do you get when a black cat crosses your path?

Question by Cadi:How many years of bad luck do you get when a black cat crosses your path? I have a black cat at home, and suddenly I wondered how many years of bad luck that my family has, as a kitten and I do not care what’s on his way when he is interested in something. He is not completely black, however, has a white spot on his stomach. Would he still be considered a “black cat”, and I’d have bad luck? I’m superstitious, and I just wondered. Best answer:

  1. As it turns out, and luckily for you and your family, cats cannot actually affect reality around them in any supernatural way. They just don’t have mystical powers of any kind whatsoever. If you think about it, there’s ALWAYS a black cat crossing your path SOMEWHERE on the planet. Just because you can’t see it, and the path might be 11,000 miles away, doesn’t mean it’s not crossing the area that you’re facing. When you think about it that way, it becomes clear that this particular superstition is without any basis in fact. Like most (if not all), superstitions.

So the answer to your question is: Zero years.

  2. Yes if he only has one little white spot he is still basically a “black cat”. Please hide him on Halloween. Bad things happen to black kittehs on Halloween because of idiots. It might be an urban legend but why take a chance?
